At the Beach with Seaside Wishes

Writer: Amy RichAmy Rich

I don't know what it is, but whenever a beach stamp set or bundle appears in a Stampin' Up!® catalog, I have a strong desire to buy it. I don't always, but this time I knew immediately. I think it's because of the Hybrid Embossing Folder included in this bundle. I'm a sucker for Hybrid Embossing Folders because they not only work well together, but they save time by cutting and embossing images at the same time. And it's just plain cool.

As we are watching the clock tick on our time to purchase stamp and die bundles at an extra 10% off, we focus on one bundle that has gotten a ton of play at my house, Seaside Wishes.

One night recently I started thinking about techniques that could easily be used with this bundle, and one very unique technique that a friend reminded me about last summer: the Bubble Magic technique. Here's how it works:

Step One: fill a small cup with water, 1/2 - 3/4 full.

Step Two: drop a couple drops of dishwashing soap into the water.

Step Three: drip drops of ink refill into the cup until desired color is reached. I used about 30 drops. It was kind of a lot, with a light color ink, more drops will be needed.

Step Four: use a straw to blow bubbles in the cup until the bubbles start to come over the top. Put a piece of white cardstock or Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper on the bubbles so they break while on the paper. It's a super cool background, and I knew I'd love the look for my beach card.

When making my card on Facebook Live during What's Up! Stampers on Wednesday, I bubbled up the top half of my 3 3/4" x 5" Watercolor Paper, then used a blending brush to add Crumb Cake ink to the bottom half to help it look like the beach. I added some "sand" using the the speckle stamp from the Seaside Wishes stamp set. The stage was set, then, for the others pieces I stamped and/or cut from the bundle. It turned out on paper just like it looked in my head, and that's pretty special.

Gosh, it turned out pretty, didn't it? I used Balmy Blue ink refill for the bubble background, but the color combination that really beautifully does its thing is this...

I think I just have to watch me make this card again.🤣 It's so cool! You know where I go to watch? Right here. Then, for a list of items I used on this card, along with links to my online store, check the bottom of this blog post.

Have I intrigued you with the bubbles? Keep in mind you can also use kids' bubbles you find at the store with some ink refills to do the same thing.

Happy bubbling!

Amy
