A seasoned ink veteran knows that a marker is not a marker is not a marker. When it comes to Stampin' Up® markers, two main kinds come to mind: Stampin' Blends Markers and Stampin' Write Markers. So what is the difference? The main thing is that Stampin' Blends are alcohol markers that come with two in a pack - one light and the other dark. They are meant to be used together and blend beautifully together. The color from Stampin' Blends can be moved around and layered, and they are similar to a Sharpie marker in that it is more permanent, even on slick surfaces. Stampin' Write Markers are water-based and can be used in many of the same ways that our ink pads are used.
I've taken a bit of a blogging hiatus, but I've got some beautiful cards to share that I've been making during my Facebook live events the last month or more. Let's go all the way back to January 8, when I used Stampin' Write Markers during my What's Up Stampers event to share some ways Stampin' Write Markers can be used to watercolor. In my opinion, watercoloring with Stampin' Write Markers needs three things: Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper, Water Painters, and, of course, Stampin' Write Markers.
One of the things I shared during What's Up! was that you can color with the brush end of the Stampin' Write Marker on Watercolor Paper, then spread the color using a Water Painter. Because the Stampin' Write Marker is water-based, the ink will spread with the water, leaving a darker outline where you made the first strokes and will get lighter the further from the original color you get.
Another thing I shared is that when using Stampin' Write Markers, you can color on one of our clear blocks, then use that color as a palette. Grab ink from that palette using a Water Painter, then color the image.
One thing you will notice on these technique pics above is that I first stamped my image in a very light color ink. In this case it was Basic Beige. Notice how when I add the color, that's how I really define the image, essentially making the Basic Beige lines disappear. This is called no-line watercoloring. It does take some practice, but using the two coloring techniques I've shared above makes the process a little bit easier. And look at the results: gorgeous!
