Project #8 started out as one thing and morphed into something else. Whether it turned out as I thought it would or not, I really like the final result...and it was easy! Bringing out a technique blast from the past was my favorite part. When I made the video, I think I may have had part of the story wrong. I was thinking it was a technique we used in stamping years ago, but then it dawned on me that actually I think the technique comes from my years working in a fabric shop. We "embossed" velvet...although I can't remember how, exactly...just that we used an iron.
So when Stampin' Up!® came out with velvet paper, I just decided it was something I had to try using a stamp. You can see some perfect imperfections (more ink some places than others), but those are the little things that make a project special in some ways - at least that's what I'm telling myself. ;)
I embossed the "Merry Christmas to You" right into the Red Velvet Paper. Here's how I did it:
Cut the Red Velvet Paper as desired
Lay your red rubber stamp rubber side up on your table
Ink the stamp with white ink
Lay the paper velvet side down on the stamp
Put a hot iron to the back of the velvet paper and hold for 5-10 seconds
I originally tried to emboss the paper without the white ink, but it was a lot more difficult to see. Adding the white ink ensured visibility while embossing the paper. And double bonus: the heat from the iron heat set the white pigment ink.
