The Unique & Beautiful Spanner

I love it when a card speaks for itself and the work to make it unique is minimal. The spanner card, when embellished well, needs no special tricks measurements. It's just perfect in its simplicity. So What is a spanner card? THIS is a spanner card.

Let's walk you through the process for making this card.

  • Start with a card base measuring 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" and score it in half at 4 1/4". In this case, I'm using Night of Navy cardstock.

  • Cut from one of the ends of the card base to the score line, 1 1/4" in from each of the sides (see below)

  • On the inside of the card, adhere 2 pieces of Designer Series Paper 1" x 4" along the edges and a piece of 2 3/4" x 4" Basic White in the middle.

  • When the card is closed, adhere a piece of 2 3/4" x 4" Designer Series Paper to the middle section of the card.

  • Stamp a sentiment on a piece of cardstock that measures 3" x 1".

  • Adhere that about 3/4" up from the bottom edge of that center section.

  • Put a thin strip of adhesive on each end of a piece of window sheet measuring 4" x 1" and adhere it across the card directly over the sentiment piece, connecting the two side panels together.

  • Adhere two pieces of Designer Series Paper, measuring 1" x 4", to the side panels, covering the window sheet ends.

  • Embellish as desired.
